everywhere. that is what john sibley has seen in hattiesburg. he jones us on the telephone. i'm here with our meteorologist chad myers. tell us what you saw. >> reporter: i picked up the tornado out of marion county, mississippi. there was initial report that came out of their emergency management agency that a tornado had indeed touched down and struck several homes, injuring several people. from there, i was able to pick it up about 10 miles to the west of hattiesburg. the storm was larger on the western side of the interstate than the eastern side. we've been able to go through and look at our video. now, the folks in west hattiesburg, i didn't hear sirens over there, but as we moved toward the college campus. the sirens were loud and proud. also want to give a shout out to the local fire department. as the tornado was paralleling highway # 8 and moving into the city. they were out there blocking traffic to keep folks from driving into the tornado as well as police out on the interstate. they had the interstate blocked for a time. >> chad myers, just amazing video we're watching here. what

for smacking a toddler on a recent delta flight. according to court paperers, joe ricky hundley he used the "n" word and slapped the 2-year-old when the boy started crying as the play descended into atlanta. he faces a federal assault charge. >>> from 130 miles an hour to 0 in the blink of an eye. it happened friday night in iowa during a high-speed chase. the police officer was already out of his cruiser so he was okay. but the driver of the speeding car was killed. after the wreck, police discovered the man's 5-year-old son was also in the car. the boy survived and is being treated for his injuries. the child was at the center of a custody dispute in georgia between the man and his wife. >>> a lot more is planned for you this saturday night. here's where else we're working on. why does hollywood keep hiring the same black actor again and again and again? he's here live. he says he gets hired because he's not a scary black man to white people. >>> an asteroid flyby. the closest in modern history and a once in a 100-year meteorite in russia, on the same day? fire up the conspiracy theories. >>

sibley has seen. he's joining us now on the telephone. i'm here as well as our meteorologist chad meyers. tell me us what you saw. >> i origin ally picked up the tornado as it moved out of marion county, mississippi. the tornado struck down hitting several homes and injuring several people. i tracked it into down. the tornado itself on the west side was larger than the eastern side. we've been able to go back and look at our video in the last couple of hours as the tornado moved through about 5, 10:00 p.m. central time. i didn't hear any sirens in west hattiesburg, they were loud and proud. also want to give a shout out to the local fire department. as the tornado was paralleling highway 98 and moving into the city, they were out there watching traffic to keep folks from driving into the tornado as well as police out on the int interstate. they had the interstate blocked. >> just amazing video. what type of damage have you seen in. >> the damage is telephone poles and power lines snapped off at the ground as well as windows blown in one side of the building and blown out the damage. ther

confirming now through your contacts as well that she has died. what can you tell us about what happened to her? >> well, i don't know if people may or may not be aware, but she had been doing well and things were looking up for her. she had children with a boyfriend who ended up killing himself a few weeks ago. she was struggling after that. actually was admitted herself to a psychiatric facility, and there's a cautionary tale here about the stigma of mental illness and the way in which the public attacks celebrities of which take care of themselves, and she was so fearful of the stigma and the way people were responding to her being hospitalized that she checked herself out prematurely and we have what we have. >> as i sit here looking at the picture, i am remembering a story from a while back that involved a child in custody with her? >> yes, a long struggle to regain custody of her child whom she finally just recently had custody again, and again, establishing a stable home with her boyfriend and things went off on a bad direction after he killed himself. again, i have no direct know

dee joins to us talk about his new project "beyond trayvon." you're live in the "cnn newsroom." and good morning, thank you so much for being with me. i'm carol costello. we begin this morning with what's being called the deadliest hot air balloon accident in the world in at least 20 years. 14 tourists killed today when a balloon exploded in the southern egyptian city of luxor. it's the site of some of egypt's most famous ruins. these were shot just before the explosion. rez reza sayah joins us this morning. >> reporter: this hot air balloon dropped 1,000 feet, the empire state building is a little more than 1,200 feet so this was a lengthy drop, officials say at least 19 people were killed, this incident happening in the city of luxor in southern egypt, the site of some of the most famous ancient ruins. officials saying 21 people were on board, almost all of them with the exception of the pilot were tourists, among them hong kong nationals, japanese nationals, british, the french. the operator of this hot air balloon was sky cruise. obviously there's going to be a lot of ques

been hurt and a lot of different numbers have been coming to us from different russian agencies over the course of the day and a number of people who are injured in this incident, but they all have one thing in common, they keep going up. as you say, the total number of injured is now close to 1,000. there's how many people they say, between 30 and 100 have been treated in hospital and a smaller number, less than ten we are told are said to be in grave condition. fortunately for all the drama, for all the sheer terrifying elements to all of this, the damage although widespread is not significant. it is largely broken glass. the people that were showered in broken glass as they were struck by the sonic booms that most of the injuries are not more serious than simple cuts and scratches. >> unbelievable. phil black reporting live from moscow. let's talk more about the piece of meteor itself, because indra petersons, please help us understand this. as you look at this thing, it clearly is on fire when it enters the earth's atmosphere. am i right? >> absolutely. i definitely wanted to sta

doppler radar i am imagines and what the national weather service is telling us. forest county and jones county in mississippi, these storms are moving to the east-northeast a good 40, 45 miles per hour. you're under a tornado warning. it's in southwest alabama, choctaw county, clark county, washington county. we have as many as four warnings. previous hour or two we have had four or five warnings, nothing materializing from that and now we're getting damage reports. the system is going to continue to almost strike fear in many residents of the deep south into the overnight period because this system continues to churn. now, this is just one image. let me show you the radar picture. this is the southern edge of the frontal system that actually stretches all the way up to where blizzard warnings are in effect for areas of the upper midwest. eventually this is all going to move to the same area that was hit, of course, with, you know, one, two, even three feet of snowfall. that's a flood concern. as we go further into time, we can get a little closer. these tornado watch boxes will eventua
